The Daimler Art Collection is presenting a contemporary cross-section through international art in recent decades, featuring about 30 artists from India, Australia, South Africa, the USA, Israel, South America, Georgia, Russia and Japan. About 50 works are on show in the exhibition, mainly new acquisitions made in recent years, and they deliberately complement the Collection’s established European focus with positions from outside Europe.
The Daimler Art Collection was started in 1977, and is committed to a concrete-constructivist, minimalistic pictorial language for images and objects. From the early 1990s a concentrated selection of photographs, video films and installations by contemporary artists has been added. This part of the collection has been assiduously and continuously extended.
Appropriately to the international quality of Daimler as a company, the Art Collection’s acquisition policy takes a long term view, and is addressing cultural developments in Asia, South Africa, South America and India. Recent years’ shows featured mainly German and European classics from the Daimler Art Collection, but this year’s presentation in the Stadtgalerie in Kiel opens up new views of art developments outside Europe.
